Session Outlines

Session 1 – The Middle & High School Phase
A phase is a time in a kid or teen's life when you leverage distinctive opportunities to influence their future. During this conversation, we’ll dive into the Middle School and High School phases to understand developmentally what’s true and what’s changing during these years.

Session 2 – It’s Personal
To connect more deeply and have more effective and fulfilling conversations with teenagers, we must get personal. In this conversation, we’ll discuss the five essential questions that should be answered in order to get to know teenagers in a more personal way.

Session 3 – Creating a Safe Space
Safe spaces don’t just happen, they are intentionally created. When a teenager feels safe sometimes they will share intimate, complicated, and personal things. When this happens, we have to be prepared. In this conversation, we will discuss how we should respond when these things happen.

Session 4 – Scenarios
In this session, we’ll use what we learned in the first 3 sessions to navigate some real-life scenarios.

Candice Wynn is a native of the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Area and despite moving away at 18 years old for college, still roots for the “home team.” After graduating from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, Candice immediately pursued graduate work at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, where she received a Master of Divinity degree. Candice has served as a Youth Pastor and Next Generation Pastor for 14 years. An itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Candice is currently a Youth Ministry Specialist for Orange. As a Youth Ministry Specialist, Candice has the privilege of carrying out her Youth Ministry calling by training, coaching and consulting Youth Pastors throughout the world. Candice is infatuated with all things urban and artsy. As such, she and her husband, Maxim, often spend their weekends creating graffiti art, cooking with their two children, Mason and Sunni, or sneaking off for a date - when they can find a sitter.
